What is the EORI number in Slovakia?

Every business that clears goods through Slovakia's border needs an EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) number — the operator ID that Financial Administration of the Slovak Republic (Customs Section) issues and that customs systems check on every declaration. Structurally it is the SK prefix plus a national identifier (a correctly formed example is SK1234567890), and because the EU EORI system is shared, one Slovakia-issued number covers declarations anywhere in the EU. Without it, an import or export declaration in your name simply cannot be processed.

Who needs an SK EORI number?

If your business is established in Slovakia and you import, export, or are named as importer/exporter of record on a customs declaration, you need an EORI before the first shipment moves. This covers limited companies, sole traders and partnerships alike — whether you're bringing in stock from outside the EU, shipping to customers abroad, or fulfilling orders through a marketplace that crosses a customs border. Using a forwarder or courier to file the paperwork does not change this — the declaration still records your own EORI.

The EU EORI system runs on a one-registration principle: you apply in the single member state where your business is established, and for a Slovakia-established business that means going through Financial Administration of the Slovak Republic (Customs Section). Once issued, your SK number is recognised across all 27 EU member states — no need to re-register separately for each country you sell into or buy from. How to apply for an EORI number in Slovakia

1. Check whether you already have one. Authorities often assign EORI numbers automatically when a business first interacts with customs. 2. Gather your business details. You will typically need your company registration number, VAT or tax ID, legal form, registered address and contact details of an authorised person.
3. Apply with Financial Administration of the Slovak Republic (Customs Section). Applications go through the official portal — typically days to a few weeks depending on case review. Registration is free of charge; no official authority charges for issuing an EORI.

Checking and using your Slovakia EORI number

EU EORI validation (EU EOS) + Slovak customs confirmation. SK registrations live in the EU's shared EOS database, so it isn't only you who can check the number — trading partners elsewhere in the EU routinely verify a new supplier's or customer's EORI before the first shipment goes out.

Once active, your EORI appears on every customs document tied to your business: import and export declarations, transit paperwork, safety and security filings, and any customs authorisations you hold. Couriers such as DHL, FedEx and UPS will ask for it before they can clear commercial goods in your name.
